In
many ways I have operated many different ways in the VHF
contests. At this point, I should start saying that I've operated
in the "most modes" Meaning I've been Amtrak Rover, Vehicle
Rover, Mountain Topping, Home QTH, and now by Boat. Although we
were on the boat, we did stay in one Gridsquare, FM-18.
This contest was the first on the boat. The boat was Jay's and
Ernest's (K3JAY and NQ3X respectively). A medium sized sail boat
by the name "Force 13". The name reflects the groups name...Dark
Side of the Force Contest Group, and on the Gale Force Scale, it
exceeds by one, the highest rating (Force 12).
This trial run on the boat net a fairly successful attempt. It
really isn't easy to work from a moving platform. The upper bands
(903 and up) just aren't possible because the antennas have too narrow
of a recieving and transmission angle. We might be able to work
this out later with future contests. We also had a weak
result on six meters, but this is likely due to a antenna set-up that
had the six meter loop not parellel with the ground. It may also
have been poor band conditions, but I suspect the first reason and not
the latter.
Below is a few things like pictures, logs, summaries, and more from
this contest, even a short video. Look for a future contest to do
a simular type of contest. Might even petition the ARRL to add
the catagory....simular to Rover stations.
